KB180201 - MSCAL.OCX / 429 ActiveX Error

SYMPTOMS

When trying to select a date in the Reminder wizard you get a ActiveX 429 error and the application closes.

CAUSE

Some machines don't come with MSCAL.ocx and it is not redistributable, if you don't have this file then the calendar can't be used.

RESOLUTION

Step 1:
Download the MSCAL.OCX and save the file to the location that best suits your windows version:

New Computer with Windows XP or higher:
C:\Windows\System32

Old Computer upgraded to Windows XP:
C:\Windows\System

Windows 98 or ME:
C:\Windows\System

Windows 2000 or NT:
C:\WINNT\System32

Step 2:
Choose Start > Run...


Step 3:
Enter these two words in the Open field:
regsvr32 mscal.ocx


Step 4:
If the registration succeeded, you will get a message like this:

DllRegisterServer in mscal.ocx succeeded.
